Ústí nad Labem is the tenth biggest city in the Czech Republic. It is situated approximately 100 kilometers from Prague and 70 kilometers from Dresden (the capital city of Saxony in Germany).

Among the historical monuments and places of interest that are located in the town of Ústí nad Labem, we can name, for instance, Střekov Castle, the altered ruin of the original Gothic castle dating back to the 14th century, situated on a huge rock on the right bank of the Labe River. Another dominating place is Větruše, an excursion place with a cableway and a restaurant. Other interesting places which you can visit are Erbenova výšina, Mariánský most, Theatre, Museums and many others.

How to get to Ústí nad Labem

Written by Erasmus student Emre Kurt - 2015

After arrival to Prague airport – Václav Havel Airport Prague, you should exchange money for bus and train; 20 euro should be enough for you. It means almost 600 CZK. After taking your luggage, you should go outside to bus station and wait. Your bus is AE. It means Airport Express. Don’t buy tickets from a machine; you will buy from the driver when you get on the bus.

The price of a bus ticket is 100 CZK. This bus goes directly to train station “Praha Hlavní nádraží (or Praha Hl. n.)” and you will get off at last station ( you will go around 30 minutes). The last station is the train station - "Praha Hlavní nádraží".

After getting off the bus you will see an elevator, get in and go to the bottom floor where you will see the ticket office. You can take a ticket to Ústí nad Labem, which costs around 200 CZK. After buying the ticket you should go upstairs and check the timetable to find your train’s platform. Your ticket won't have a date. Because the ticket is valid until the end of the day, therefore, you can get any train until the last train. The last train will depart at 23.25.

After getting on the train just you have to wait until the train station “Ústí nad Labem”. The length of way is 106 km but the time depends on the speed of the train, usually, it takes more than 1 hour. You have to be careful about train station; you don’t want to miss your station :) When you will reach the train station “Ústí nad Labem”, your buddy will wait for you and your Erasmus experiences can start!
